Looking at the magnificent building from across the road I thought, the Jefferson was a
stunning National Historic Landmark.  Its white limestone facade adorned with
Renaissance style balconies is an attraction  in itself.  Inside the palatial Palm Court lobby
where the afternoon tea is serve,  Faux marble columns incircled the round room.
Overhead, a 70 foot high ceiling with a skydomed tiffany stained glass skylight.

Afternoon tea here is known for its delightful ritual not to be missed.  The style and
ambience is luxurious much more like in the movie setting.  Our assigned seat was close
to the life size marble statue of Thomas Jefferson right  in the center  of the Palm Court.
We were served with the sumptuous selection of tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones
serve with Devonshire cream and strawberry preserves, as well as delicious pastries and
tea biscuits.  I choose the Jefferson Blend, a traditional English blend made from Keemum,
Darjeeling and Ceylon teas.  Very aromatic with a full flavor.  Savoring the mouth watering
treat, the rich sorrounding and the superb service are beyond beautiful.

Later on one must experience the marble grand staircase walk that lead to the lower
lobby.  The Rotunda could rival the public rooms of many Grand hotels in Europe.  One of
the most breathtaking room I have ever seen.  As one of the finest hotel in America built in
1895,  being here is very grand indeed.  Just make sure you made your reservation on
Fridays  through Sundays, with seatings between 3:00 and 4:15.  Enjoy the relaxing sound
of the harpist each Friday.

Whenever I think of Richmond, there's no doubt in my mind that the first thing that will
come to  mind is  the unforgettable Jefferson Hotel.
